If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion--how can God's love be in that person?
1 John 3:17 NLTse (see also vv. 16-24)
God has called us to love each other and show compassion for others as He does. If we say He lives in us but our actions do not reflect His love and compassion for people, then how can we say we are in Him and He in us?
What if instead of living at our means or beyond our means, those of us blessed with financial provision intentionally chose a standard of living that would allow us to respond with compassion to help meet the needs of others? This will give us confidence rather than guilt when we stand before God (v.21), and when we present our requests to Him, He will provide what we ask (v.22).
Choose carefully and intentionally how we allocate the money that God has provided to us. Pray for the Holy Spirit to work within us and help us make choices that honor God. Live by Jesus' example, with His help.
Lord, You know I've always struggled with what is the right balance of using money for ourselves vs. giving. Help us to choose wisely in a way that You can use us to be a blessing to others. Holy Spirit, please prompt us with opportunities to give, and help us follow through cheerfully!
