Daily devotional: Lessons from Babylon

"See, I am your enemy, you arrogant people," says the Lord, the Lord of Heaven's Armies. "Your day of reckoning has arrived--the day when I will punish you."
Jeremiah 50:31 NLTse

Although God used the Babyonians to punish Israel for her continued sins, the Babylonians had overbearing pride and believed themselves superior due to all their achievements rather than recognizing and submitting to God. As a county, we too will fall when we continue thinking we are superior, that all our accomplishments are due to our strength, and as we do not submit to God. God also still holds Israel dear to His heart. The Bible speaks blessings to those who bless Israel and tells us to pray for Israel. Wrath falls on those who are against Israel, even when it is part of Israel's divine judgment, so may we always be her ally.

Pray for revival for our nation. Be careful not to become arrogant, and rather submit to God's supremacy in humility. Pray for Israel's salvation and be kind to her.

Lord, I recognize you as God and Lord. Every good thing I have, and my undeserved position in this world, is from You. Please bring salvation to your special people of Israel, and protect her, showering her with shalom. May Israel find you and turn back to You, seeing that Jesus is the Messiah written about in all the Law and the Prophets.
