Daily devotional: A new heart and a new spirit

Scripture
Put all your rebellion behind you, and find yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O people of Israel?
Ezekiel 18:31 NLT (see vv.30-32)

Observation
God judges each of us for our own actions. Our sins will destroy us, but God does not want us to die in our sins. Instead, He desires us to turn from our sins and live (v.23)! The key is finding a new heart and a new spirit. When we trust Jesus and choose to follow Him, He gives us His Spirit (Luke 24:49; John 3:6, 6:63, 7:39, 14:26, 16:13, 20:22; Acts 2:18, 38, 5:32; etc.), who produces a change of heart within us (Romans 2:29).

Application
Embrace the Holy Spirit, who is given to us when we trust in Jesus. He changes our hearts in ways we are incapable of doing on our own!

Prayer
Lord God, thank you again for sending Jesus to take away my sins. Thank you for giving me a new heart, and a new Spirit who creates within me a longing to be with You and follow You wholeheartedly. You are awesome, and Your ways are far better than my ways. I worship You and put You first. Thank you for giving me new life in You!
