"But I have this complaint against you. You don't love me or each other as you did at first!"
Revelation 2:4 NLTse
The people of the Ephesian church were doing a lot of things right--hard work, patient endurance, intolerance of evil, testing the spirits, and patient suffering. But they had lost that passionate pursuit of love for Jesus and each other as they had at first. It is like married people who have to work at still pursuing their spouse, wooing them, seeking to learn as much as possible about them, getting to know them better, spending time with them, and thinking about them. Jesus wants us to keep this kind of fresh love for him and each other.
Don't get so engrossed in good works that I lose sight of my first love for Jesus and others. Passionately pursue Jesus, and love others continually.
Lord, I really do love you. I seek to keep our relationship fresh and new, not taken for granted. Thank you for teaching me new things about You and giving me fresh insight as to who you are. Help me keep You first, and help me to love everyone as You love them. Please help me keep an appropriate perspective on life.
