Your heart was filled with pride because of all your beauty. Your wisdom was corrupted by your love of splendor. So I threw you to the ground and exposed you to the curious gaze of kings.
Ezekiel 28:17 NLT
God greatly blessed Tyre, but they became proud and greedy. Their greed led them to violence (v.16) and dishonesty (v.18). Their pride corrupted their wisdom (v.17), and because they thought they were as wise as a god, the Almighty God brought them off their high horse and destroyed them.
Recognize blessings and talents as gifts from God. Be wary of pride, and be content rather than greedy for more. Worship God, exalt Him, and recognize Him for blessings and talents. Watch carefully for the slightest hint of pride or greed, and repent quickly.
Lord, you have blessed me greatly. Everything I have comes from You (1 Chronicles 29:12, 14)! I have experienced your discipline when I grew proud, but I am thankful that You have been very merciful to me. Holy Spirit, please speak loudly to me and point out all pride and greed as soon as it starts welling up within me so that I can walk with you in purity as I repent and turn back to You. You are so good, and I praise You for your glorious works and generosity to me.
