Daily devotional: Jesus is polarizing

Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, the baby's mother, "This child is destined to cause many in Israel to fall, but he will be a joy to many others. He has been sent as a sign from God, but many will oppose him.
Luke 2:34 NLT

Jesus is polarizing. What other name causes strong reaction 2000 years after that person's life? Jesus didn't come to bring peace among everyone, like a giant Kumbaya song event. To those who accept Him as He says He is, Jesus is our Savior, peace, strength, joy, and perfect leader and example. But for those who choose not to accept Him at face value as God and their Savior, Jesus has at times led to strong feelings and violent opposition. Those who do not accept Jesus will fall--we do not have the option to just be indifferent towards Jesus.

Let Jesus be my joy. And be understanding when people oppose Him. Don't take it as a personal attack, but rather know that there is much more at work than meets the eye. Pray for others to experience Jesus as their Savior.

Lord Jesus, I love you. Thank you for filling me with this joy in my heart! Thank you for saving me. Help me to be spiritually wise and discerning. Help me to effectively share You with others. Please open their hearts and prepare them each time you provide an opportunity. Help me to wear thick skin and trust You.
