Daily devotional: Our own desires and ideas

"But no, my people wouldn't listen. Israel did not want me around. So I let them follow their own stubborn desires, living according to their own ideas."
Psalm 81:11-12 NLT

Doesn't it sound like freedom, power, and fulfillment to be able to follow our desires and live according to what we think is best? And yet this is actually the punishment God allows for those who don't want Him and don't want to listen to Him. God wants to give us His best (v.16), satisfy us, and fight for us against our enemies (v.14) if we would listen to Him, follow Him. and walk in His paths.

Keep asking God to replace my desires and my own ideas with His. Listen to Him, follow Him, and walk in His paths.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the paradoxical ways that You work. Thank you for writing my name in the Book of Life and opening me up to choose You. Thank you for your gift of salvation through Jesus' death and resurrection! Please remove my desires and my ideas, and replace them with your desires and your ideas. Open my ears to hear You. Help me to follow You and walk in your paths. Thank you for loving me and leading me to wonderful things you have in store for me!
