Daily devotional: God has no needs

...and human hands can't serve his needs--for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need.
Acts 17:25 NLT

Sometimes we can think we are helping God out through our good works, like He needs us to accomplish His work. This can lead us to act in ungodly ways if we do disservice to others in our pursuit of good works. God created us to seek after Him (v.27), and we certainly need to be obedient when He calls us to do things. We will find joy in being obedient, but we should make sure we realize God is giving us the privilege of joining into His work, similar to how a father allows his son to "help" on projects.

Keep myself pure so I can be a vessel that He can use (2 Timothy 2:20-21). Follow obediently and in joy when and where He chooses to use me. Understand my place and "contribution" so that I keep my priorities and love for others where it should be.

Lord, I love you! Thank you for choosing me to be your son, and thank you for your plans for me. I am grateful that You are giving me an opportunity to more closely join into the work You are doing. What a joy and privilege it is to be your vessel. Help me have a correct perspective on your work and my place in it. Thank you, Lord!
