Daily devotional: Guard my heart towards my spouse

Didn't the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.
Malachi 2:15 NLT

God created and ordained my marriage with Stephanie. Even though I have no intention of being unfaithful to Stephanie as my wife, this is a solemn reminder to guard my heart. I'm sure many or most who succombed to marital unfaithfulness did not set out to do that but rather dropped their guard in their thoughts, friendships, or actions. Another reminder of this importance is that God desires godly children from our union, and divorcing my wife would be to overwhelm her with cruelty (v.16).

Guard my heart so that I will honor God and Stephanie in my marriage and parenting. Be loyal to Stephanie.

Lord, You have generously blessed me by bringing Stephanie and me together. And I am grateful that You have protected me from unfaithfulness. Please protect our marriage. Please bring us closer and keep us from thoughts or actions that would do disservice to this union You have ordained. Holy Spirit, please turn up the volume on my conscience and guide me to make wise decisions to be loyal to Stephanie and to bring up Ian and Elise into godliness. I love you, Lord!
