Daily devotional: Work zealously

Next to him was Baruch son of Zabbai, who zealously repaired an additional section from the angle to the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.
Nehemiah 3:20 NLT

Many of the people who are recorded as having participated in rebuilding Jerusalem's city wall are just listed. Some are even listed as complaining, not working with the construction supervisors, or only working on the wall right next to their house. Baruch son of Zabbai is recorded along with them in the Bible, but he zealously worked. Work can be accomplished, but wouldn't it be great if what is remembered at all is that we worked zealously?

Be zealous in my work. It matters to God, may make it more enjoyable, and people will notice the difference.

Lord, thank you for this new day and a new opportunity to serve You. Please ordain every word I say and action I take today. I give myself to You. Please grant me wisdom and discernment to do what is best, and give me the strength and passion to work zealously in all that I do. Thank you for taking care of me, comforting me, and training me in righteousness! I love you!
