But even as he spoke, a bright cloud came over them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him."
Matthew 17:5 NLT
Robert Lewis in his Men's Fraternity curriculum first opened my eyes to how dads should verbally tell our children from youngest age onward that we love them. As they get older, we should also tell them that we are proud of them and affirm them in what they are good at. In this scripture, we see God the Father doing each of these with Jesus.
Tell my children that I love them! And tell them especially as they continue to grow how I am proud of them, and encourage them according to their bents (Proverbs 22:6).
Heavenly Father, thank you for telling me that You love me. And thank you for modeling how to tell our children that we love them, build them up, and encourage them in their gifts and abilities. Please go with us this weekend and bless Elise's and my special time together, and please direct me and speak through me in exactly the words you want me to share with the dads and daughters on Sunday morning. I love you!
