Daily devotional: Responsibility to my spouse

But a married man has to think about his earthly responsibilities and how to please his wife.
1 Corinthians 7:33 NLT

I've always read this verse in context of why it is better for unmarried people to stay unmarried, but it also is a good reminder that while I do need to spend time doing the Lord's work and thinking how to please Him (v.32), I also have earthly responsibilities and need to think about how to please my wife. Entropy rules in marriage, so if I am not actively working to build it up, then I am causing it to die down.

Be intentional about meeting my responsibilities to please Stephanie. Prioritize her in action and not just in my heart. Get wise counsel when I need help or outside direction.

Lord, You are awesome and worthy of all praise. Thank you for challenging me today with 1 Corinthians 7. I choose to live by Your power and in the shadow of Your wings. Please help me so I can do the work You have for me and not neglect my earthly responsibilities in my marriage and fathering. Help me to love Stephanie like You loved the church by laying down Your life for her and building her up. Give me the counsel, wisdom, energy, and perseverence so that my love is not just words but backed up by action. I love you!
