Daily devotional: Slave to what controls you

They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.
2 Peter 2:19 NLT

I don't want to be a slave to my human desires, material things, food, or even to a quest for intellectual knowledge. Instead, I want to be controlled by God, a slave to righteousness and holiness, freely sharing Christ's love in meaningful and practical ways.

Watch what is controlling me so that I will continue to be a slave to God through my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lord, please fill and help me to continually renew my mind with the things of You. I don't want to be a slave of sin or corruption or anything else but You. I give myself completely to You and ask You to control me. Thank you for this precious life You have graciously lavished onto me both now and also that which You have stored up for me in heaven. I can't wait to see You and be with You fully rather than the relatively dimly lit mirror we have while we are still on the earth. Thank you that You renew all things and that You chose me to be Your child. I praise You and worship You, my Master and my God! I love you.
