Daily devotional: Courageously in step with God

"All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give all of you into our hands."
1 Samuel 17:47 NIV

I always have desired to be a man after God's own heart. But David's encounter with Goliath shows just how close he was with God. He was so intimately in communion with God that David was able to confidently go out to fight Goliath, and not only that, but to publicly proclaim beforehand to both friend and foe that God would provide the victory. May I be in such intimate community with God that I clearly understand where and how He is working, and may I also have the courage to proclaim to all that the victory is the Lord's doing, not mine or anyone else's.

Trust in God. Foster my relationship with Him--earnestly seek Him, pray, and put Him first. Then move forward courageously as I understand His will.

Lord, I love you! I seek to know You and be in intimate community with You! Please reveal Yourself to me and remove anything that gets in the way. Help me to free myself of all distractions. I want You above all else! Give me confidence to move boldly in the direction You are working and to give You all the glory.
