Daily devotional: Singularity of purpose

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it."
Matthew 13:45-46 NIV

The kingdom of heaven is far more valuable than anything else, yet I often treat it like it is not of highest value by the priorities I set and the way I spend time. If I really comprehend Jesus' gospel message, I will not just verbally affirm it, but my actions and priorities will reflect my understanding of God's truth.

Put God and the things of God first! Walk in singularity of purpose.

Lord, this is a hard but good message today. I don't want to be like the seed planted among thorns that doesn't produce fruit due to the worries of this life or the lure of material possessions. I have found the hidden treasure, the pearl of great value, and I will start acting with ever increasing authenticity in accordance with this spiritual reality You have opened up to me through Your Word and Your Spirit. May the Holy Spirit lead me and guide me into the fullness of life You have for me. Help me not be distracted.
