May the Lord judge between you and me. And may the Lord avenge the wrongs you have done to me, but my hand will not touch you.
1 Samuel 24:12 NIV
If anyone had the right to kill someone, conventional wisdom would say that David could have killed Saul in self defense. But David refused to harm Saul--a sign of respect for the person God had put in authority, and signs of David's great faith in God and his self control.
Remember that revenge is not for me. Trust God to take care of any discipline or punishment necessary, and instead show love to anyone who wrongs me.
Lord, help me to ever resist the urge to get even or lash back when I feel wronged. Help me to be a witness for You and follow the example that Jesus and David have given me. I trust You and love you, Lord God Almighty! To You be all praise, honor, and glory, both now and forevermore!
