For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
Romans 2:13 NIV
Humans are interesting characters. We can say we have faith and believe God through what is written in the Bible, but then we can go and ignore parts that are inconvenient, or make choices that clearly go against the principles we verbally affirm. The faith we need is one that does not just mentally process and verbally ascribe to God's Word, but a faith that is moved to action. It is not based on perfection but on a true change of heart.
Think about the lessons of the Good Samaritan and the sheep and the goats. Pray for the Holy Spirit to point out any two-facedness, that I will actively live out my faith according to God's commands.
Lord, I fear for American Christians who perhaps tend more than elsewhere to affirm verbally their faith but then do not show it by their actions. By Your grace, may I not be like that. Use me if and when I can encourage or challenge others in the same. I don't want to be barely saved as one who passes through the fire; rather, by Your grace and indwelling Spirit, I hope to be Your servant who you can commend when I get to heaven as consistently following You in word and deed. I love you!
