Daily devotional: Inquire of God

So David inquired of God again, and God answered him, "Do not go straight up, but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees."
1 Chronicles 14:14 NIV

I love how David does not presume to be able to take on the enemy without asking God beforehand whether he should take on the challenge (v.10). And then when another decision has to be made (v.14), David asks and God not only answers, but He answers with His own plan. I think we often operate out on a limb when we do not prayerfully consider our actions and wait for the Lord to reveal His will to us.

Follow David's example. Ask God before important decisions, wait to sense His leading, and then follow God and give Him the glory when He does great things!

Lord, please help me not to operate on my own. Help me to always seek You, seek Your will, and hear Your voice, and follow Your leading. I want to join into Your work and serve You, not ask You to join into my work and serve me. I love you!
