Daily devotional: Contentment over abundance of possessions

The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep.
Ecclesiastes 5:12 NIV

I too have seen and experienced the turmoil, distraction, and time sink it can be to have an abundance of possessions. There is great joy in contentment in one's work when there is not obsession over money or possessions. Truly it is a gift from God when one accepts his lot, is happy in his work, and enjoys what God has given him (v.19)!

Thank God for His many blessings, enjoy my lot in life, and enjoy my work. Don't get dragged back into accumulation of stuff or pride in possessions, which just causes distraction and discontentment.

Lord, You are awesome and I love You above all else. Thank you for giving me a desire to work, and thank you for letting me be happy and content. Please keep us from greed and increase our desire to give and thus be a blessing to others. Please make our hearts more and more like Yours. Cause us to grieve over what You grieve over, and value what You value. I praise You, my Lord God, my Maker, my Heavenly Father, my Provider, my Leader who calls me His friend! You are awesome and worthy of all praise!
