Daily devotional: Flee from pursuit of wealth and take hold of eternal life

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
1 Timothy 6:11-12 NIV

We are no longer of this world or here to satisfy the desires of our flesh. Pursuing wealth leads to temptation and dangerous distractions from that which is truly important. Instead, we should flee from these pursuits, take hold of our eternal life, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

Take hold of my eternal life and fight the good fight of the faith! Do not be distracted by the lure of wealth or other worldly desires. Run the race as if to win the prize.

Lord, thank you so much for this new day and the rain. Thank you for so richly providing for all my needs, from salvation and eternal life, to physical provisions, to spiritual and intellectual growth. I worship You and submit to You. Please keep me from distraction and temptation so that I will be an effective, trustworthy servant. Please point out when anything else starts to take Your rightful place in my life. Please help me not to just point people to You by example but also help me to speak the right words at the right times. I love you!
