Daily devotional: How to treat others

Scripture
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Colossians 3:12-14 NIV

Observation
Who wouldn't be drawn to Christ if we exhibited these behaviors? But how many of us really cast aside our former self and put on Christ so that He can renew us and build these behaviors within us? I had a conversation yesterday about spousal infidelity and how one would respond. I have to think these verses apply even to that situation, especially since the way the Lord forgave us is while we were still cheating on Him and even though we are not always faithful.

Application
Put on love, and be clothed with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Forgive as the Lord forgave me!

Prayer
Lord, I love you. Thank you for loving me and treating me as we are told to treat others in these verses. I know I am incapable in my human strength to live as these verses instruct me. However, I know I have died to my human nature and live in You, so I pray that You would live these behaviors in me and through me. Please make me and mold me into the man You have called me to be, one who does not look like most in the world and one who cannot live in his own strength this way but who can live this way as the Holy Spirit dwells in me and Christ lives through me.
