Daily devotional: How to treat people

Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.
1 Timothy 5:1-2 NIV

The commandment to love our neighbor as ourselves makes sense, but Paul puts it into really practical terms by relating our treatment of others as to how we would treat them if they were our mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters. This is especially insightful for all men in how to treat women, as sisters, with absolute purity!

Consider how I think about and treat people so that I honor God and His name!

Heavenly Father, thank you for this new day! Thank you for loving me, for saving me, for living in me and through me. Please change my frame of mind in how I relate to people. Help me to treat older men as my father, younger men as my brother, older women as my mother, and younger women as my sister, with absolute purity. Help this mindset to permeate me and as a result, may I treat people in a way that pleases You and helps spread the glory and splendor of Your Name. I love you!
