Daily devotional: Seek and rely on God

He went out to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you."
2 Chronicles 15:2 NIV

I am convinced that our efforts fall short of the potential God has for us when we do not first seek God eagerly with all our heart and soul (vv.12,15), when our hearts are not fully committed to Him (2 Chronicles 16:9), and when we rely on ourselves rather than on God (2 Chronicles 16:7-8).

Don't settle for what I am capable of on my own! Seek God first and be fully committed to Him. Rely on Him for victory and deliverance. Don't be self-dependent. Rather, be desperately dependent on God. He will be with me and will accomplish far more than I can ask or imagine!

Lord, I am overwhelmed by Your grace and Your plan for engaging with us. Thank you for reconciling me to You and making peace between us, not by my effort but by Jesus' precious blood, shed on the cross (Colossians 1:20). Thank you that I, a sinner, can miraculously stand before You, holy in Your sight, without blemish and free from accusation because of what Christ has done for me (Colossians 1:22)! Thank you for rewarding my time of seeking You, for showing Yourself to me and strengthening me. I go forth now and rely on You, not myself. I labor and struggle with all Your energy, which so powerfully works in me (Colossians 1:29)!
