Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.
2 Chronicles 20:3 NIV
When three nations came against Jehoshaphat, he looked not to his intellect and advisors but to the Lord for help. He called all the people together to pray, fast, and seek help from the Lord (v.4). Jehoshaphat worshiped God and proclaimed His greatness (v.6), affirmed the covenant God had with the people of Israel (v6-9), admitted they were powerless, put their eyes on God (v.12), sang to the Lord and praised Him (v.21). After God delivered them (and God reminded them that the battle was not Israel's but God's, v.15), they praised the Lord and rejoiced before Him (v.26-28)!
Similarly, seek the Lord when there is a problem at hand. Don't stand proudly or ashamed to admit I am not self-sufficient. Use Jehoshaphat's experience as a template for how to come before the Lord. Then don't be discouraged or afraid; trust God and watch Him do amazing things before me!
Lord, I love you! Thank you for giving us Your Word which has so much to learn and glean from. I pray that You would always be with me as You promised, and that You would continue to teach me and show me Your power as You work powerfully among us. You are awesome and worthy of all praise! May I not ever take You for granted or rely on my own strength. Thank you for loving me and saving me, my Lord and my God!
