Daily devotional: Serve humbly

Do not exalt yourself in the king's presence, and do not claim a place among great men; it is better for him to say to you, "Come up here," than for him to humiliate you before a nobleman.
Proverbs 25:6-7a NIV

I want to be a valued leader, advisor, and contributor. But I always need to start by being humble, trusting God, and serving faithfully where I am rather than attempting to rush my way to a place that should be earned. Then more may be requested if and when it is appropriate.

Trust God and serve Him faithfully. Let Him lead me; follow Him diligently and with contentment where He has put me.

I choose to follow You, Christ Jesus! Thank you, Lord God, for giving me endurance, encouragement, joy, peace, and hope (Romans 15:5,13) as I trust in You. Thank you for filling me with the power of the Holy Spirit! I am eager to serve You in whatever capacity You have for me. I pray for wisdom and discernment. Please hone me into the man You are calling me to be, and help me to walk in the power of the Spirit who You have granted to me. I love you, Lord!
