Daily devotional: Messianic prophecy

Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan--the people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.
Isaiah 9:1-2 NIV

It is neat to see a prophesy from Isaiah, who wrote this in the eighth century B.C., talk about the coming of Jesus as being an honor to Galilee, where Jesus lived. Jesus indeed was a great light to the people of His time who were walking in darkness. V.4 goes on to proclaim that he has shattered the yoke that burdens them! Amen!

Thank God for giving us the Scriptures, which contains nourishment, warnings, understanding of God, instruction, examples of how to live and how not to live, and more. Enjoy this special book.

Lord, thank you for the Scriptures. And thank you for sending Jesus to take away our sins and show us the way to real life. Thank you for telling about His coming far in advance! I love you!
