If you return to the LORD, then your brothers and your children will be shown compassion by their captors and will come back to this land, for the LORD your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.
2 Chronicles 30:9 NIV
As I was thinking about this Scripture, I was struck by how amazing is God's love for us. It doesn't matter what we've done or how we've treated Him in the past. When we return to Him, He is gracious and compassionate. It reminded me of the song How He Loves, by John Mark Mcmillan (also beautifully performed by Kim Walker and David Crowder Band). God's love for us is so amazing, so overwhelming to think that He sent His Son Jesus to carry our sins and die a torturous death on the cross to atone for our sins, to know that Jesus chose to go through with His death for us, while we were yet sinners, scorning and scoffing at Him, when He had the choice to call it all off and justly punish us for our choices. It is amazing to know that Jesus still loves us after dragging Him through our sin, poor choices, disinterest in Him, and idolatry. This passage in 2 Chronicles is a beautiful example of God accepting His people back after many years of ignoring Him and blatantly defying Him, and yet even in their imperfect worship, He accepted them back, loved them, and even blessed them. Just as the prodigal son was welcomed back with unconditional love from his father, God is waiting for each of us, longing for us, and ready to lavish His amazing, unconditional love on you and me.
Don't grow hard and calloused to God's amazing love. Seek Him wholeheartedly and be totally devoted to Him. Let His overwhelming love overflow from within me to others too.
Lord, I am speechless before You, ashamed to walk through life so often without acknowledging You and taking life into my own hands. Thank you for loving me first, for loving me perfectly and unconditionally. May I reflect Your love to everyone else, and love You back as imperfectly as it is. Thank you for accepting me before You, for sending Jesus to the earth to save me. I desire You. I want others to know how awesome it is to call the Creator of the Universe my daddy, to know You and experience You and all that You have in store for me. You are awesome beyond words. I love you.
