Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
1 Peter 3:7 NIV
What a rich verse packed with challenge and truth to guide me in my marriage with Stephanie. I am to be considerate of her, knowing her interests, needs, and weaknesses, and putting those above my interests and needs. She deserves respect from me, not being put down, ignored, or taken for granted as is often the case with wives and moms. She is weaker than me, but equal in God's eyes and equal heir of God's gracious gift of eternal life; in heaven, she certainly won't be weaker than me. If I do not live with and treat her how God calls me to treat her, my prayers will be hindered. I cannot expect God to listen to me and answer my prayers when I am not treating His precious creation the way He calls me to.
Obey this verse! Study my wife's needs and give her the love and compassion and respect that goes with living considerately with her. Treat her as my fellow heir of eternal life.
Lord, thank you for this beautiful day and this beautiful setting to read and ponder Your Word. Please help me to know Stephanie well, to have discernment and understanding and consideration for her. Please help me, empower me, show me, and challenge me to treat her how you have called me to treat her, to love her how You loved the church as you gave Your precious life up for her. I love you, my Lord and my Savior, Jesus Christ!
