Daily devotional: Do not seek after the world's desires

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
1 John 2:15-17 NIV

God calls us to live in the world but not of it, not to seek its desires or cravings that may bring temporary satisfaction but ultimately lead to emptiness or consequences. The way of many in the world may seem right but leads to death. The ways of God lead to everlasting life.

We are called not to live the way the world does but rather to follow God's Word and live as Jesus did.

Lord, thank you for this new day. Thank you for showing me the way to life. I pray that I would live well in the world but not by its standards, not to go down paths that lead to emptiness or consequences but rather to follow Your ways that lead to life. Help me to be in Jesus, to live in him, and walk as Jesus did (1 John 2:5-6). Help me to be an encourager and good influence on others so that they will know You and not experience the shortcomings and consequences of living in the world's ways. I love you!
