Daily devotional: Love others as Jesus has loved me

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13:34-35 NIV

The world is supposed to be able to tell Christians by our love for one another. The bar is high and unmistakeable. Jesus loved us by stooping down to our level, serving us, and dying for us even while we were yet sinners. And we are to love one another as Jesus has loved us.

Be transformed and let Jesus live in me, listening and obeying the Spirit, so that I can love others as Christ has called me to. Put others first, and live in such a way that non-Christians will know I follow Jesus because of my selfless love.

Lord, thank you for loving me perfectly. Help me to not be selfish but instead put others first, above my needs and wants. I pray that Your love would shine through me. May people know I follow You, Lord Jesus, even if for no other reason than because they see Your love in me and through me. Let me not be known for close mindedness, hate, self righteousness, or judgementalism. Help me to not stay in a Christian societal cocoon. Instead, let me be in the world and not of it and help me to love everyone with Your love.
