Daily devotional: Peace in spite of troubles

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 NIV

Jesus does not promise worldly success or an easy life. In fact, he tells His followers that we can expect persecutions because we follow Him. But in that we can still trust in Him and walk in peace. This world is not the ultimate end; as Christ's followers, we will rise to meet Jesus and live for eternity after our earthly death with Him who created the universe and loves us dearly.

Take heart and have peace, regardless of whether my earthly circumstances are visibly blessed or whether they are tough. In times of trouble, know that I belong to Jesus, and Jesus has overcome the world!

Heavenly Father, thank you for Your grace and lovingkindness! Please help me to stand firm even when there are troubles and trials. Help me to remember that I serve You and my risen Lord Jesus, who has overcome death and this world. Let this perspective give me strength, confidence, and peace that passes all understanding. Thank you for Jesus living in me, and for the Holy Spirit, Who is my awesome Counselor. Please speak to me and build into me. Let the outpouring of what the Holy Spirit does within me be a blessing to others. Thank you, Lord! I love you!
