Daily devotional: What it means to know the Lord

"He did what was right and just, so all went well with him. He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?" declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 22:15b-16 NIV

When we know the Lord, we do what is right and just, and we defend the cause of the poor and needy. That is where God's heart is, and if we know Him, we are an extension of his love and compassion to those in need.

Continue in what is right and just, and defend the cause of the poor and needy. Listen to the compassion tugging within me.

Lord, You know I want to know You and be close to You. I know this means that as I know You better, what is important to You will increase in importance to me, and what is not important to You will decrease in importance to me. Please accelerate this growth and alignment within me. Please bring me along and help me to have increased opportunities and clarity into how specifically You want me to allot time and resources to be more intentional about caring for the poor and needy. I know You are tugging, and I want to be obedient and a blessing to others. I love you.
