Daily devotional: How to stand strong against temptation

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone.’”
Luke 4:4 NIV

Jesus was able to stand firm against temptation to sin because He was filled with the Holy Spirit (v. 1, 14) and had God's Word committed to memory (v. 4, 8, 12). He sets a perfect example for His followers to live by.

Allow the Holy Spirit to empower me. Bathe myself in God's Word, increasing how much of it I put to memory. Then in times of temptation, I can stand strong, not tossed about by what I hear or think in the moment, but rather resting in the power of the Holy Spirit and the truth of God's Word.

Lord, You are awesome. I am amazed by the fulfilled prophecies I read about today in Daniel and Luke. Thank you for having a sovereign plan for humankind. Thank you for ruling over the prince of this world. I pray that You would continue to fill me with the Holy Spirit. Help me to be ever increasingly aware of His presence and role in my life. Empower me to stand strong against temptation. Lead me to the Scriptures to meditate on, and give me a passion to memorize Your Word. I love you, Lord!
