Daily devotional: Attributes to desire of a leader

I put in charge of Jerusalem my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah the commander of the citadel, because he was a man of integrity and feared God more than most men do.
Nehemiah 7:2 NIV

Although certainly not an exhaustive list of what to look for when choosing a leader, choosing someone who is characterized by integrity and who fears God more than most are two attributes that should be high on the list of traits to look for.

Evaluate potential leaders with these two traits in mind, and be ever mindful to live with the utmost integrity and fear of God for myself so that I also will be a good and desirable leader.

Lord, thank you for this new day. Thank you for revealing to us the deep mysteries of Your plan and Your ways, but also for revealing to us that which is practical and useful for everyday life around us. Please help me to be the man of integrity that I seek to be, and I pray that You would continue to increase my faith and help me to fear You in a way that brings You glory and joy. Help me to be an example for others to follow. I also pray that You would give me discernment so that I can find these character traits in others that I seek out for leadership. I love you!
