Daily devotional: Direct access to God the Father

And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
Luke 23:45b NIV

God the Father is full of love and compassion for us, and yet He is supremely holy. On our own, we cannot face Him because of our sin. In Jesus' day, only the high priest could enter the Most Holy Place in the temple, which was separated from the Holy Place by a curtain, and even then only under special circumstances. How awesome that in Jesus' death, He covered over all our sins so that when we face the Father, He sees our debt paid. Thus we can come directly to Him, signified by the torn temple curtain, without having to continue going through an intermediary!

Praise God for His plan of salvation. Go before God's throne in prayer, and don't take this privilege for granted.

Heavenly Father, You are holy. All Your ways are just and righteous. I know that on my own I cannot come before You, because even though You love me, my sin would come in the way of our fellowship. Thank you for sending Jesus. And Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that You obediently carried out Your mission on the earth. Thank you for dying for my sins to cover the penalty that is justly due me, and that I can now come directly to the Father, no longer an outcast from His presence. Lord God, make me into the man You want me to be, so I will become more and more like Jesus. I love you!
