Daily devotional: Historically verifiable events

The king is familiar with these things, and I can speak freely to him. I am convinced that none of this has escaped his notice, because it was not done in a corner.
Acts 26:26 NIV

The amazing thing about biblical history, and even in the life of Jesus, is that there were many real events in real times and places that are externally verifiable in history. And as unlikely as God's Son living as a perfect man, dying, and rising back to life sounds, the alternatives to believing that these events actually occurred have big problems and are not historically supportable. While we still need faith to believe in God through Jesus, there are many factors that strengthen my faith.

Remember the facts on which my faith is founded. Talk to others who are struggling with their faith when it may help them to know they don't have to have blind faith, or faith that goes against known facts.

Lord Jesus, thank you for saving me, for coming to the earth as a perfect person, for teaching and leading us by example, and for paying the ultimate sacrifice to cover my sins and make me holy in God's sight. Thank you for bringing Your plan of salvation to fruition in a way that leaves much to strengthen our faith rather than having to rely on unfounded philosophical ideas. Please continue to strengthen my faith, and help me to strengthen other people's faith as well through the things You have taught me. I love you!
