Daily devotional: How Jesus' purpose should affect my passions and actions

"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."
Luke 19:10 NIV

Jesus' purpose in stepping out of His heavenly glory to stoop down and spend time with us on the earth was to seek us out and save us from eternal separation from God. This morning I was struck by how passionate I would be if I observed someone who would die without intervention, yet I realized how much less passionate I am for those whose eternal destiny is still at stake. The risk is immensely important in both scenarios, but because one is seen and the other is spiritual, I can become indifferent to the latter, which is ultimately more important.

Pray for the Lord to instill His passions and His desires in me. Pray for opportunities to live out and intentionally share His good news. Pray for those whose names are not yet written in the Lamb's Book of Life. Be led by the Holy Spirit, and act on the opportunities He provides.

Lord, thank you for leading me, for growing me through Your Word and through the Holy Spirit. Please instill Your passions and desires in me. Please give me opportunities to live out and share Your good news. Please prepare the hearts of all those I come into contact with, that they may see and hear and be ready to accept Your gift of salvation. Help me to know how to not just stop with sharing the good news, but also to help steer people into discipleship. Holy Spirit, just as I am asking You to work in people's hearts and prepare them to receive Your good news, please work in me and lead me to opportunities. Please give me discernment and insight as I encounter people, and please speak through me the words You want them to hear. I am Yours. Please do with me what You want to accomplish. I love you!
