Daily devotional: Importance of prayer and fasting

Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.
Acts 14:23 NIV

The church leaders prayed and fasted before they commissioned Barnabas and Saul in Acts 13:3, and then we see similar action when appointing elders for the people in each church. This is another reminder of how fasting and prayer accompany important decisions.

Put these great practices to use as I am in big decisions or undertaking plans of importance. Don't underestimate the power of submitting to the Lord reverently and passionately in prayer and fasting.

Lord, You are so good. You are worthy of all praise, reverence, and fear. I ascribe to You awe and respect, and I submit to You. Lord, I want to grow in my prayer life and also practice fasting more often. I know it leads me to You, and I know You choose to show Your power and respond when those You love submit to You in prayer and fasting. Let me not miss out on what could be just by not practicing these well. I love you!
