Daily devotional: Prominence of prayer in my life

About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray.
Acts 10:9 NIV

I am reminded of the prominent part of prayer in the lives of the godly, as well as in Jesus' life on the earth. Verse 4 says that Cornelius' prayers came up as a memorial offering before God. Peter received a vision of great significance while he was in prayer. We are told that Jesus often prayed even when praying meant sacrificing sleep.

If I desire community with God, and if I desire for Him to speak to me even more than through His Word--and I do, my life needs to be more characterized by prayer than for prayer to be a peripheral part of my existence.

Lord, You are awesome. You are worthy not only of my praise but also of my attention and my dedication to You. I seek to be in closer community with You, to talk to you more often, and to hear from You more often. I seek an intimate bond with You. How awesome that You, the Creator of the universe and Lord over all that exists, seeks to dwell on an intimate level with individual people. I look forward to what You have in store. Help me to establish healthy habits that promote my close walk with You. Bring to light any sins or habits that are keeping me from intimate communion with You. I love you!
