Daily devotional: Seeking the Lord first

When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.
Nehemiah 1:4 NIV

When Nehemiah found that things were not right between his people and God, and he needed to figure out what to do, he didn't just start going on his own. Before he took any action, he humbled himself before God, mourning over their situation, fasting and praying to God.

Before I just start taking action, I too need to humble myself before God, to seek Him through fasting and prayer. Then trust and wait for Him to reveal His direction to me.

Lord, You are holy and awesome, worthy of all praise and glory and splendor. You are the Creator and Author of all that exists. You are above all. I worship You and praise You. Please help me to not just go about my plans or fixing things on my own. Instead, remind me to seek You. Help me to yearn for You. Show me the benefits of life lived fully in You. Please renew my strength today, give me discernment and skill in my work. I love you!
