Daily devotional: Live with eternity in sight

What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 NIV

Marriage, possessions, and things are not bad in and of themselves, but the pursuit of them can be when our focus is on them rather than on our walks with the Lord, when it distracts us from walking in congruence with what God is passionate about.

Test my passions and motives to see if I am truly aligned with what the Lord is passionate about. Do I love Him above all? Do I value the poor and fatherless as He does? Am I loving my family and those around me in a godly way?

Lord, thank you for maturing me. Thank you for giving me contentment, although with the tremendous blessings You give me, I cannot say that I have ever had to be content with little as Paul wrote. But let me not be engrossed in all these worldly things. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You, the Author and Perfecter of my faith, and help me to run the race You have set before me so as to win the prize. I love you!
