Daily devotional: Know and be content with our lot in life

To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven."
John 3:27 NIV

John the Baptist was not envious that he was decreasing as the ministry of Jesus was increasing. He was content with doing the work that God had entrusted to him. Jesus then follows up in John 4:34 that His food is to do the will of God the Father who sent Jesus and to finish His work. Jesus drew fulfillment from living out and working in the capacity that God the Father called Him.

Do not worry about what work may seem exciting or more interesting than the areas of my giftedness and calling, or even if my role decreases as others' increases. Instead, be content with what skills, abilities, and calling God has blessed me with. Live it out with all diligence and trust in the Lord as He gives me strength to do His will. As a result, life is full of content and enjoyment!

Lord, thank you so much for blessing me with skills and abilities, and for leading me into work that is fulfilling and satisfying. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for living in me, for transforming me, and for renewing my mind. I love you!
