Daily devotional: Showing wisdom and understanding

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.
James 3:13-14 NIV

I definitely want to be wise and understanding, so vv. 13-18 are key for me. I should exhibit a good life. I should be doing deeds in the humility that comes from wisdom. Envy and selfish ambition is to be rooted out. The wisdom I pursue should be represented by being pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.

Emulate these characteristics and gravitate towards them in the power of the Holy Spirit, with Jesus Christ living in me and through me.

Heavenly Father, thank you for this new day, and thank you for Your Word. Please grow my wisdom and understanding. Please expose and help me root out all envy and selfish ambition that is harboring in my heart. Holy Spirit, please grow your godly wisdom with all the attributes discussed here. I love you!
