Daily devotional: Watching life and doctrine closely

Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
1 Timothy 4:16 NIV

In v.7, Timothy is instructed to train himself to be godly, and in v.15, he is told to do these things diligently. It is important to persevere in one's life and doctrine, especially as a leader in the church, not only for one's own sake but also for the spiritual openness and growth of others.

Watch my life and doctrine closely. Persevere in training myself to be godly.

Lord, thank you for this new day. Thank you for working out your plan of salvation and for drawing me to You. Thank you for the work You are doing in your Church, and for stirring my heart. Please help me to clearly hear and understand the Spirit's proddings. Help me to be diligent, think clearly, love everyone with Your love, and lead well. I love you!
