For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
Philippians 3:18-21 NIV
Most people don't even think about or realize that they are living as an enemy of the cross of Christ. It is normal and natural for our minds to stay on earthly things. But the Christian is to think on our heavenly citizenship, to eagerly await our Savior--the Lord Jesus Christ! It is His power that transforms us as we willingly bring ourselves under His control. What an awesome reality that we get to eagerly await our Lord's coming and be transformed into His likeness in the meantime!
Rather than my mind staying on earthly things, put my mind on my heavenly citizenship, awaiting my Savior and in the mean time being transformed into His likeness.
Lord, Your glorious, mysterious plan of salvation is awesome indeed. Thank you for choosing me, for calling me out of darkness into Your glorious light. Thank you for transforming me into Your likeness in spite of all my natural inclinations and behaviors. Thank you that this life is not all there is to hope for, but that I get to eagerly await for my heavenly citizenship to become my eternity together with You. Thank you that I won't have to always look heavenward as in a dimly lit mirror but that soon I will see my Maker face to face. Oh what an awesome thing it is that I don't have to look with anxiety or fear toward that day of judgment due to my sins and shortcomings, but rather that I can come to You and claim nothing other than the wonderful grace of my Lord, and the precious blood of Jesus, my Savior, which cleansed me from all unrighteousness and makes me holy and blameless in the sight of my God. I love you, however imperfectly, and I praise You for all this.
