He replied, "My mother and brothers are those who hear God's word and put it into practice."
Luke 8:21 NIV
A recurring theme I keep running across in what I am reading and listening to from Scripture is that God calls us not to just listen and even to mentally believe, but also calls us to action. If our faith is just mental and does not result in bearing fruit, producing a harvest, putting it into practice, or whatever analogy you choose to receive, then it is not what God has called us to. As James wrote in James 2:18b-19 (NIV), "Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder."
Pay attention to what fruit my faith is bearing. Make sure my faith goes from mental affirmation to action. show the love of God to others by what I do.
Lord, You are holy and worthy of all praise. Thank you for rescuing me, for calling me to a higher life that is not what the world thinks of as success, but what results in a fulfilling life lived with You. Holy Spirit, please speak loudly to me when I have opportunities to put my faith into action. Let me be as Abraham in Genesis 22:3 when he jumped to action early the next morning after hearing You, and not like Jonah who shrank back from his calling until You disciplined him. I love you!
