And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.
Genesis 45:5 NIV
Joseph had incredible perspective and restraint when he forgave his brothers for selling him into slavery. Although Joseph was perhaps lacking in tact, he certainly did not deserve the treatment he received from his brothers. It would have been easy to understand if Joseph had held a grudge and then taken it out on his brothers when he had the opportunity. And Joseph could have complained or have been bitter towards God for allowing him to go through many years of undeserved hardship. However, not only does Joseph forgive his brothers, but he also sees God's gracious hand of provision through the events that had unfolded.
Rather than holding grudges and seeking payback, and rather than being angry at God if circumstances seem unfair or unreasonable, forgive others and put my full trust in God. Praise Him for who He is, and understand that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Lord, I praise You. Sometimes I can see Your hand at work, but other times I cannot. Yet I trust in You fully, and I know that all Your ways are perfect, even as You are perfect. I submit to You and rest in the knowledge that in all things, You work for my good! I love you!
