Daily devotional: What should be on our hearts

Scripture
"Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man."
Luke 21:34-36 NIV

Observation
A few things stand out. One is that many people are weighed down by the anxieties of life, and their time and talents are dissipated on things that are not of value. The other is that we are called to be careful and be on watch so that we may be able to stand before the Son of Man. That day will be incredible and terrifying for those who are not right with Jesus, who have been more focused on the things of this life than on their relationship with their Maker.

Application
Be on the watch and keep my Lord and Savior first!

Prayer
Lord, thank you for warning us. Please help me not to get weighed down with anxieties of life or distractions so that Your coming (or my death) is unexpected and catches me unprepared. I know I cannot stand before You on my own accord, but by Your grace, and I want to be able to be the good and faithful servant of Yours on that day that I do stand before You. I love you!
