Daily devotional: Eternal perspective

What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 NIV

Paul instructs us to be content in our lot in life where the Lord has placed us, but he then reminds us not to be engrossed in the things of this world.

Continually remember this perspective so that I do not continually fall back into materialism but instead keep an eternal perspective.

Lord, You are so good to me. Thank you for Your great undeserved favor, Your grace and mercy that You have lavished on me. I seek to know You and put You above all else. Holy Spirit, please continue to remind me of keeping an eternal perspective so that I do not get engrossed in the things of this world which surround me everywhere. Help me to train up my children and be a godly influence on my wife to also treat things we buy as if not ours to keep, and to not get engrossed in the things of this world that we use. Thank you for each of the influences You have placed into my life, and especially the Holy Spirit, who guides me in godly counsel and convicts me where I stray from You. I love you!
