Daily devotional: Go to the Source

Jesus replied, "Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
Mark 12:24 NIV

The Sadducees thought Jesus was mistaken, because their philosophy seemed right to them, but they did not know the Scriptures or the power of God well. Knowing what is right spiritually is of vital importance. The best way to always grow towards the direction of what is right is to get to know God personally and the actual Scriptures intimately. There is a place for commentaries and philosophy, but nothing compares to experiencing God's power and letting His Word (the Bible) take root in our lives as we read, dissect, meditate, and memorize it. Just as a counterfeit analyst could only learn so much from studying counterfeits vs. the real deal, so we can learn something from other sources but should really focus on the real deal.

Continue to grow closer to God in my personal relationship with Him, and continue to study the Scriptures.

Lord, thank you for revealing Yourself to us and for the tremendous gift of Your Word, which amazingly transcends time and is cohesive in spite of its vast number of years and various authors. Please continue to reveal Yourself to me, and open my mind and my heart to Your Word. I love you!
